After reading a post by Norma Toering titled "Where's the Beef in Blogging? It's the Business...Points Are Merely the Dessert," it made me think about what drives me to spend as much time as I do, blogging on this platform. It's not the only platform that I use.
For me, the reasons are many. First and foremost, I want the phone to ring. The Google juice is at the top of my list, and if it were not, I would not bother with enrolling in SEO courses and listening to webinars on that topic. Daily attention is paid to placement of keywords. SEO is at the top of my list.
Reading and commenting are next on my list. I read to learn, and I comment to share and to get another dose of juice.
Networking is the fun part. Learning from others; sharing with others; and becoming friends are all part of networking on this platform. I've received many requests for help with new construction and with marketing. I'm always flattered when I'm asked to help, and hopefully, my help resulted in someone else's success.
Last, but certainly not least, are the infamous points. I've been accused of being a point monger by those who feel I've encroached upon their territory. The point system is another creation by ActiveRain to encourage participation and competition. It's a system that works well. Challenges offer points to encourage participation and as a result, good blogging habits are formed by consistent use. The Challenges are another system that get the job done!!
The Leaderboard gives recognition to those who actively participate. The points mount; the number of features are disclosed for all to see, creating a competitive edge; the number of blog posts are stated and the page placement for town, county and state are all there. Do you think this creates competition? Ask Tiger Woods?
Blogging on ActiveRain is not like blogging on any other platform. There's a useful purpose for each component of this platform, and if each is used properly and consistently, the results are significant.
