I'm Proud To Be "Old School".... Not All New Methods Have Merit

We often hear the term “old school” used in reference to methods of marketing or ways of thinking from years ago compared to today.  There are many methods of marketing that will never grow old, and it would be wise for today’s real estate agent to become familiar with them.

The way agents think and conduct themselves today is much different from agents in past years.  Habits have changed.  Behavior has followed suit.  It’s difficult for “old school” thinking to deviate to new methods of thinking. 

Dual agency is an example of one newly acceptable method of agency.  I could never understand the benefit for either buyer or seller.  I have always thought of dual agency as a method for an agent to “scoop up both sides of the commission.” 

I was always a listing agent, and I represented the seller.  When you represent the seller, you don’t cross the line.  You stay out of the neutral zone.  You know what the seller needs, wants and must have in order to sell.  It’s your job to get it, if at all possible. 

Pick a side and stay with it.  The only team is you and your client.  This is not communal living.  It’s not let’s share, compromise and meet half way.  Dual agency is an unacceptable method of agency in my opinion, but I’m “old school!!!”
