What makes a good salesperson? There are many attributes. Selling is educating, counseling, listening, giving time and value to a buyer. These are just a few of the traits of a good salesman. Those are also qualities of a good teacher. Many teachers have changed their profession for one reason or another, and many have become real estate agents. It's a business of relationships that require all of those fine qualities that teaching demands.
Real estate offers more flexibility and the ability to work independently which is not usually available in the public school system. I taught biology, chemistry and geometry to college bound high school students. I prepared a lesson plan and had a certain amount of material to cover in a short period of time. I was responsible for preparing young people to qualify to compete at a higher level in the near future.
A real estate sale requires a similar type of education to prepare adults to compete against others in purchasing a home on the open market. We counsel our buyers; we listen to their needs; we give them our time and hopefully add value to their knowledge about purchasing real estate. Once a teacher always a teacher.....it never leaves you.
