We’re all aware of the fact that Google likes good content, and Google likes plenty of it. However, how many people actually read 2000+ words of good content?
From what I’m hearing and observing, most readers lose interest around word 400. I’ve found that my 200 to 300 word posts have been indexed by Google. I also post those brief but direct narratives on my two Wordpress sites and on Trulia.
ActiveRainers read and comment on most of my posts. Many appreciate the fact that the “bottom line” is reached quickly. I prefer a post that “cuts to the chase.” I enjoy reading a post that gets to the point quickly without being wordy.
I will admit I lose interest quickly if the post is lengthy, and my greatest fear is that my readers will follow suit. Many bloggers feel that they need to write lengthy narratives about their topic of choice. New bloggers should start with 200 to 400 words; become comfortable with your style; and enjoy responding to your many commenters. Blogging will become enjoyable.
