We often read posts and ads about new construction, and many times the homes in the ads are described as being “well built.”Whenever I read that phrase, I stop and think about what that writer is thinking. The level of knowledge the writer has of new construction would determine the definition of “well built.”
“Well built”certainly does not reflect the state building code in MA.Could it refer to the use of sustainable materials?Engineered wood is a product that I would consider a component of a “well built” home.Composite decking might be another material.HardiPlank has created many components that are sustainable such as fiber-cement siding, trim, planks and panels. The list of quality products goes on.
Are builders today able to build a “well built” home with the price of materials so outrageously high and the value of homes so astronomically low? Will builders have to regress to cutting corners and reducing the quality of the product in order to make a profit?“Well built” homes may be limited to those with deep pockets. The average homeowner may never have the opportunity of living in a “well built” home.
