My People Know Your People....Are Referrals And Nepotism The Same?

We all strive to be successful with our referral business. Referrals are the key to success in real estate. Is there a difference between referrals and nepotism? They both produce business for us. Nepotism happens when business is given to someone who is not qualified or less qualified to do that business than another person.
In the real estate profession, it's not what you know it's who you know, first and foremost. It's the success one has with networking and relating to certain people to open doors for one to continue to the next step. It's the knowing the right people and being at the right place at the right time. None of this means that you are qualified. None of this reflects your ability or lack of ability to get the job done properly. It merely hands you the key to open the door behind which you'll find the owner of the home and a potential listing with your name on it if you drop the right names during your meeting. If the seller is lucky, the agent will be knowledgeable along with knowing the right people.
When a politician climbs the ranks in government, is it because of networking or nepotism? Are the two words synonymous?
Do your people know my people, and does it really matter? Without hesitation....I say it DOES !!!!
