When you're nearing a goal, do you work more diligently to reach it? If I am nearing the point of making that goal happen, just before I'm there, I eliminate that goal and create a new one. I completely stop thinking about reaching that level.
The new goal will be significantly more to achieve. Let's talk about the infamous ActiveRain point system. Blogging is the mainstream of my marketing, and I blog on ActiveRain, Wordpress and Trulia. Within the next four weeks, I'll be #1 in MA but my goal will change by the end of this week to reflect the next challenge. I'll not look at that any longer. I expect that I'll reach the million point mark possibly by the end of December and that will be my next goal.
Setting goals are important, but they should always change before they are reached. If you reach a goal, there may be a lull in your production until you create the next one. Continually review and decide where you want to be at the next level of your journey.
I do this continually with my team's production; my marketing; our income and the number of listings we close. Change is good. It demands more competition and requires more attention. Continually changing your goals will help you maintain your pace, production and focus.
