I just read a post about Self-Discipline, and it inspired me to share my thoughts on this topic. Self-discipline is such a large part of our profession. We often hear agents talk about the flexibility of working in real estate, and they are not on a strict schedule or routine.
In my opinion, most of those who think in the direction of working without structure will soon be out of business. Real estate is one of the most self-disciplined professions. Prospecting is the task that will allow you to stay in business. Prospecting requires self-discipline because it needs to be done consistently.
There are many marketing tasks that require self-discipline. Without consistently marketing, in whatever method works well for you, you're doing nothing more than "hit or miss" marketing." One needs to consistently blog or consistently participate in a direct mail marketing campaign, just as examples.
Internet marketing is the key to marketing real estate today. The more you blog, the more your phone will ring with buyers; or your activity at open house events will increase; or your listing inventory will improve, etc. We need more than one method of prospecting. Whatever works well for you, do it consistently.
Self-discipline will keep you on track. Being off track in the real estate business is nothing more than a "train wreck" waiting to happen.
