After reading a members only post written by my dear friend, Loreena Yeo, I thought I'd share a few of my thoughts on this very important topic. Sharing is not a common task performed by most real estate agents either with potential clients or with co-workers. Our business is one that has a reputation of agents being trained to focus ahead but to simultaneously keep one eye on their backside too!! Tricky maneuver, to say the least!!
My thoughts are the same now as they have always been from day one, 33 years ago. If we can't share our thoughts and ideas, we are stifling our growth. If we are forced to supply our potential clients with "partial information" for fear of them not being faithful and doing business on their own or with someone else, we are not showing our true worth and we are not brokering real estate as it should be.
Sharing information with other agents is an ideal way for you to confirm that you have an understanding of that information. It gives you an opportunity to pass that information along to others, and their business may provide you with an opportunity for more business. We never know what will result from any of our actions.
When one agent learns a method or new task from another agent, the results will never be the same. Everyone works differently; each person has a different interpretation of information; each person has a different level of intelligence; each person has a different personality and all of these factors have a role in developing the end product or method to be used.
If one is worried that the other person will do it better, it may happen!! Maybe you will be fortunate enough to have that person give you some new direction in how to improve your own program. Let's hope that person likes to share, too!!!
