When it’s time to move on to greener pastures, how do you conduct yourself? The way you leave an office should be done as professionally as when you arrived. Real estate is a business with great turn over. People come and people go. Some are always professional, and others never were!!
I’ve changed offices three times and each time was done professionally, quickly and with no turmoil. I did not disturb anyone within the office, and no one knew that I was leaving except the broker/owner who made the announcement after I departed. To this day, I could go back to any one of those offices without any hesitation on anyone’s part. I never burned a bridge, and I was always thankful for every ounce of knowledge that I absorbed within each office.
What are agents thinking when they decide to open their own office and openly recruit within their present office? How unprofessional and certainly a sign of desperation on the part of the agent who is leaving. If you are going to leave to open your own office, shut your mouth and continue to work until it’s time to leave. At that point, have a one on one conversation with the broker/owner; discuss listings and transactions; thank him for the opportunity to work under his roof; and leave quietly and professionally!!
Do not recruit from within!! Do not disrupt the office!! Do not undermine or attempt to damage the name of the office or its management on the way out!! These are the reasons agents are "dismissed" before they have a new office in which to work. Timing is everything and when you make bad decisions, you ruin your timing. These are the reasons some agents will never succeed!!!
