I posted a blog titled "When You're Hot, You're Hot...And When You're Not, Keep Working" and some of the comments discussed "working hard" in the real estate business. What constitutes working hard? I'm sure there are a plethora of definitions and interpretations of the phrase "working hard." The real estate business is like no other. We need to market ourselves and our inventory in order to survive, but ideally we need to acquire that inventory. Many agents do market inventory that they do not have listed, but in my area, that's an unusual occurrence.
What's the hard part of working in the real estate business? Is it hard or is it just uncomfortable and sometimes awkward? There are many tasks that are very difficult for many agents to perform. Knocking on doors of people who you do not know; or cold calling to people you do not know; or just asking for business is uncomfortable for many. We usually don't get business, unless we ask for it.
Real estate agents are a rare breed. We need to be outgoing, but not an extravert; polished with our rhetoric, but comprehensible; have a nice presence, but not be intimidating; and present ourselves as experienced, educated and dedicated professionals. Do you still think it's hard work? Damn right it is!!
