After reading a well written featured post by Bliz titled "Picking Your Realtor, Selling Your Home Isn't Like Cheers" I thought I'd share my thoughts on this topic. I've stated many times that to get that "running start" in the real estate business, it's not what you know, but who you know that counts!!!
Bliz made many valid points about marketing, and I'm an avid marketer for our inventory. However, one of the most important aspects of marketing is the agent's ability to market him/her. If I am not marketing me, and the general public does not know who I am, discussing marketing of property is superfluous.
We are marketing agents, first and foremost, but in order to secure the inventory to market, we need to shout out to the world that we are here to do that job.
Our networking skills are one of the most important tools in our real estate toolbox.
Networking, online marketing and print advertising are just a few methods commonly used for self-promotion. Remember, it's not what you know, but who you know or who knows you that will initially make your phone ring. It gives you that first shot at closing the potential client, and this is when your knowledge of the business and marketing inventory must clearly shine. There's an order to everything and "marketing you" must not be forgotten, it's the first step.
