Are we satisfied with surviving in today's market or do we need to maintain a recognized ranking? Is it acceptable to just work every day without thinking about who will be #1? Competition is healthy, but an excessive compulsive desire to excel may not be. Commission based professions are typically guilty of having participants that are excessively competitive. It's an ego thing!!!
Competing is honorable. It is a driving force that compels us to continue to produce more business. Competition requires our full attention and commands a certain degree of expertise to participate competently.
The more perfected the skill, the better the competition, and the easier it is to win. And isn't that why we do this everyday?
