Prospecting Is Like Wearing Clothes...If It Fits You're Comfortable And Confident!!

I just read a post written by my dear friend, Fernando Herboso, titled “There Is No Easy Road Ahead” and I thought I’d share my thoughts on that topic.  The most important function of real estate is prospecting for new business.  It keeps us moving and income flowing.

There are those who think of prospecting for new business as an uncomfortable task.  There are many methods that could be described as just that.  Knocking on doors and cold calling are the first two methods that come to my mind.

Real estate doesn’t have to be made uncomfortable.   If your mentor is directing you to focus on a task that is difficult for you to repetitively complete every day, it will never work.  The key to success with prospecting is to select a method that is enjoyable to you.

There are many who enjoy door knocking and do it well.  Our own ActiveRain member, Jackie Connelly Fornuff is a prime example of an agent who does it well.  She’s very successful with this method and enjoys every moment of it.

If it’s not enjoyable, it will be short-lived and your real estate career will follow.  There are so many different ways to prospect, and if you test every one of them, you’ll find the right fit.  Once you find it, work it diligently and consistently.  You’ll continue to improve and your business will also.

It's All About Prospecting !!!

Today is a networking day for Lorraine and Jerry.  Both of them are hosting open house events this afternoon from noon to 4:00pm, and the results of those events will contribute to this week's business.  Two more resale listings had accepted offers this past week, and one new condo was reserved.

I mailed out over 1,500 postcards for just listed, just sold and an invitation to one resale open house event in a condo complex.  That open house postcard is not only an invitation to visit our open house event but to have an opportunity to speak with the listing agent and experience how we market.  Open house events have more than one purpose.  The main goal is to sell the product, but it's also an opportunity to prospect for new business and to meet new people.

Mailing postcards as invitations to open house events will bring business to you in the future.  The recipients may not want to buy the product you're marketing, but they may want to start interviewing for the best marketing agent to handle the marketing of their home.  This is a method of prospecting that combines the use of open house events and direct mail marketing to prospect for new business.  Try it!!!  It's worked for us many times.
