After reading a blog this morning written by Deonna Sheffield titled "Build a Great Team...You Are the Quarterback" I had to respond to her thoughts with my own blog. I have had a team for many years. We have no turn over of agents within the team, and we are award winning within the RE/MAX system.
My opinion of team leadership is not one of a quarterback. I consider myself the owner of the team, and my function is to make the phone ring and close builders so commissions continue to flow. My team leader is Lorraine Kuney, our "point person," and she delegates, schedules and handles all of the coordinating tasks to make sure the new construction inventory is covered and the deals close.
We have incredible camaraderie within the team, and they make sure to protect each other just as I protect and defend them. They share in the new construction commissions, and they each have their own business and following. They do not share their own commissions with anyone.
Teams work differently and are designed differently. I am convinced that when each member has a stake in the commissions of shared work, the team members bond, work diligently to get the job done and the income continues to flow. When agents have a guarantee that they will make money, it's easier for them to thrive and gain success with their individual business in a tough market. The Todaro Team is a team that works.
