Some of us have been fortunate enough to find our niche within the real estate business. My niche is clearly new construction, and when the market was booming, I didn't have to participate in any other area of real estate other than new construction. It, too, was booming and I made plenty of money by listing and selling new homes in my inventory. I referred all of my other business to my team members, and I had 5 or 6 team members, at the time. They all made six figure incomes.
Times have certainly changed and agents need to work whatever business comes their way now. Agents who previously did not work with buyers are now buyer agents. When one of my two team members sells a new home/condo, they will also list the resale owned by the buyer. When a resale listing of a team member sells, that agent will also become a buyers' agent for those homeowners. No one says "no" to new business today. No one can work solely within their niche, today.
Our industry has become more difficult to work, and because of this, maybe not as enjoyable as it use to be. There is light at the end of the tunnel, it's just a very, very long tunnel.
