There have been so many posts and comments on the correlation between education and working successfully in the real estate industry. Education is the one entity that no one can take from you, and for no other reason than that, one needs to acquire as much formal education as possible. Will it make a difference in how you conduct your business? Unfortunately, it may or may not make a difference in your production and your game plan to create profit.
We've all heard the statement that real estate is local. Not only is it local, but real estate success is based on who you know, not what you know. That may be very distasteful for many agents to read, but the statement is true. One does not need a Ph.D. to conduct business. Basic training and creating a basic routine will satisfy the tasks of listing and selling property. The phone will ring if you know people in your area, and they want to help you succeed.
Does it make you resentful to see an agent "fed business" when that agent has not paid his/her dues. The agent has no experience, lacks a formal education and does not have the ability to compose a basic business letter, but that agent has been handed a variety of inventory and many buyers who need homes. This person may know nothing beyond the basics, but with the right guidance from the right mentor or manager, this agent is on route to earn six figures, consistently.
The value of a formal education is beyond measure, and I'm very thankful to my parents for paying for mine, but there are many in the real estate industry that have common sense, a tremendous sphere of influence and the enthusiasm and drive to become successful without having that degree. I have trained many agents of this caliber and can honestly say, they do a great job, and I would love to find more.
