A career as a real estate agent has many similarities to that of a politician!! Think about some of the requirements to succeed in real estate. We need to have great networking skills; we need to be chameleons and blend into any situation; we need to continually have our focus on our business; we need to be assertive, aggressive, work without emotion but show passion for what we do; and we need to hustle to win.
All of those qualities are essential in the real estate business and in politics. Scott Brown is a perfect example of how networking consistently and relentlessly, even as the underdog, allowed him to win the position of U.S. Senator from Massachusetts. Everyone thought he would lose by a large margin, but he kept on working. The front runner, Martha Coakley, did not work diligently, and it was quite evident that she exerted minimal effort. She even made a comment joking about not wanting to shake so many hands!!! I'm very thankful that Scott Brown, our local Wrentham MA Republican resident, won and filled that long standing Democratic seat.
Think about those political skills that were needed and put them to action to work for you in your real estate business. If you feel you're an underdog in your marketplace, when you least expect it, you too can be the victor by using the proper tactics. Of course, the one significant difference between a politician and a real estate agent is if we lie, we get sued. So, refresh my memory, what happens when our politicians lie????
