What's The Most Common Reason For A Seasoned Agent To Jump Ship ?

Do you remember the days when agents were on a 50/50 split with the office on each commission without any variation?  It was a common offering at all real estate offices in my area, without exception.  Then we noticed the sliding scale.  As production improved for an agent, so too did the split with the office.  The maximum split would usually top off at 80/20 or 75/25, but the following year, the split would be knocked back down to 50/50 and the process would start again.

Now, I'm finding that offices, including RE/MAX offices, are offering a variety of splits and programs to assist in recruiting the top agents who are not being compensated as properly at other offices as they should.  It's certainly a competitive playing field when it comes to recruiting.  A pleasant, work friendly environment is as important a factor as any, but income is what we work to receive.  So, in my opinion, income is as important as workplace environment.  It may be time to review and rewrite your commission split offerings to continue to be competitive with other real estate offices when attempting to recruit seasoned agents.
