Lorraine Kuney, my team member, did a listing presentation yesterday and the sellers relayed to her that the previous agent, who also did a presentation, was very negative about the real estate market. Why would an agent do a listing presentation with a negative tone? What was that agent thinking?
Some agents put themselves in a downward direction and are now spinning out of control. Sellers do not want to hear the doom and gloom of real estate. They are interested in hearing how you will find the right buyer for their property. Sellers can listen to the 6:00pm news and hear all of the economic horror stories they can handle. They are relying on a real estate agent to get them from point A to point B, without any negative issues.
What are agents thinking when they are negative during a presentation? Could that possibly be their version of encouraging a lower list price? Painting a picture of a dark, gloomy economic scene is not the way to close a seller. That agent just lost the listing, and we will be marketing that property in the very near future. Don't relay the wrong message. Your negative attitude will imply that you are an agent who is "going out of business!" As the song says, "Put on that Happy Face!!"
